More Than Life

More Than Life are a hardcore band who have been making waves in the scene since the release of their EP Brave enough to fail in 2008. With a new album recorded and waiting to be unleashed and a tour with Defeater and Dead Swans coming up, Joey from the band was kind enough to answer a few questions.

First off can you introduce yourself and what your role is in the band, and can you also give a brief history of the band?

My name is Joey and I play guitar in more than life.

MTL started up like 2007 with a demo, first show in august 07. released our EP brave enough to fail in September/Nov 08. we have toured UK/mainland Europe a good few times and Singapore & Malaysia also.

How’s the past few months been for More Than Life?

Pretty hectic, we recorded our new LP “Love Let Me Go”, hit about a million problems but finally stuff is sorting itself out.

You have a pretty huge tour coming up with two awesome bands in Defeater and Dead Swans you looking forward to it?

Yeah man super stoked on it, dead swans are our boys we love touring with them. cant wait to play Italy, France and Spain for the first time either.

How was the writing/recording process for the album, are you excited for it to be out there soon?

Writing was done a week before the recording started ha, at first it was just going to be a split with our friends dead swans. Then it turned into us writing a full length.

It was pretty stressful, a lot of stuff went wrong for us, delaying our release for our upcoming tour so we were a little bummed out, but we have had an overwhelming response to make up for it. But we are happy it will finally see the light of day.

How does the LP differ from the EP Brave Enough To Fail?

It’s harder, faster and pretty darker. we really like it, hope everyone else will

What’s the writing process like for More Than Life?

Me and Joel our other guitarist do everything ha, we live pretty far away from each other so we record things on our laptops and send them back and forth. Like I said before we wrote the record in a week before we had to record, was crazy.

What are your essential items to take on tour?

hmmm. Ipod, Macbook, baby wipes, and a lot of good DVDs in your lucky enough to have a TV in the van.

Have you got any favourite venues or cities you love playing?

Aschaffenburg Germany or round that area is always good for us, I love travelling to places like Sweden as well.

Have you got any horror stories from the road, any onstage disasters?

On tour once nick from dead swans cracked his head open and we had to do some stuff on the sly to get it stitched back up in Germany. was pretty funny.

What bands have inspired your music?

hard to say, pretty much every band we have ever listened to and loved. definitely have a lot of punk roots at heart.

Does anyone in the band have any other projects outside the band in music or outside of music?

It’s a no… for now at least

Has the band got any set goals, what would you like to achieve with the band?

Just to carry on writing music whilst we can, tour as many places as possible, Australia, America, Canada etc…

Final question what are your opinions on the music scene at the moment, what bands do you think we should be looking out for?

things are pretty alright, There’s a lot of bands popping up out of no where, a few of them are actually pretty good!
